Public approval of premier improves

According to the results of the latest public opinion survey published in today’s Yomiuri, support for the Abe cabinet rose three points to 53%, while nonsupport dropped four points to 34%. More than 93% approved of President Obama’s decision to visit Hiroshima. The daily attributed the rising popularity to the voters’ positive assessment of the GOJ’s response to the Kumamoto quakes and the U.S. leader’s planned trip to nuclear ground zero. Noting that some 42% (up 3 points) said they would vote for the LDP in proportional representation in the July Upper House election, the paper added in a separate piece that the ruling LDP is extremely pleased with the public’s stronger endorsement of the Abe administration.
