Putin may visit Japan in December

Nikkei claimed that the GOJ has sounded out Russia on the possibility of President Putin visiting Yamaguchi Prefecture in December for an informal summit with PM Abe in the hope that by touring the premier’s hometown together, the two leaders will be able to discuss the Northern Territories dispute and other pending issues in a relaxed atmosphere. The premier reportedly hopes that by holding informal meetings with the Russian leader repeatedly, Moscow will become more receptive to Japan’s call for the return of the contested territories.
