Secretary Kerry offers “deep apology” over Okinawa incident

Most papers reported in their evening editions on a MOFA announcement today that FM Kishida spoke by phone with Secretary Kerry for 30 minutes on Wednesday before the U.S.-Japan Summit held in the evening and discussed how to respond to the latest Okinawa incident. Secretary Kerry reportedly said: “I feel deep sorrow and anger against the perpetrator. I express my deep apology to the victim’s family and friends.” Nikkei said FM Kishida responded by asking for the U.S.’s full cooperation in the investigation and tightened discipline “in order to prevent such a tragedy from happening ever again.”
