Former senior USG official underscores benefits of U.S.-Japan alliance

Yomiuri ran a one-on-one interview held in Washington on May 31 with former Under Secretary of Defense Michele Flournoy, who is expected to return to government if Hillary Clinton becomes the next president. Flournoy was quoted as saying that alliances with such nations as Japan contribute to the national interest of the United States and that if Clinton becomes president, she will probably maintain the current U.S. policy of strengthening the U.S.-Japan alliance.
