Sunday morning’s Nikkei reported on page 2 that Defense Minister Nakatani met with his South Korean counterpart Han Min Koo on Saturday in Singapore, and agreed to set up a defense hot line between the two nations in order to deepen ties over North Korea. The paper said while Nakatani referred to the need to conclude a GSOMIA to share defense secrets, Han explained that the trilateral framework of the U.S., Japan, and South Korea should be used. Nakatani also reportedly invited Han to visit Japan sometime this year. Han reportedly said he will make efforts to do so.
