Saturday evening’s Nikkei reported on page 3 that Defense Minister Nakatani held a brief conversation with PLA Deputy Chief of the Joint Staff Sun Jianguo on Saturday morning in Singapore and conveyed his wish to visit China to discuss the establishment of a maritime and air communication mechanism in order to prevent contingencies involving the two nations. According to Nakatani, Sun Jianguo responded by saying it is important to hold talks.
