All papers reported on Sunday on a meeting between the defense chiefs of the U.S., Japan, and South Korea on Saturday in Singapore. Yomiuri said the three defense ministers later released a joint statement in which they strongly condemned North Korea’s ongoing nuclear and missile development and urged the nation to immediately refrain from taking provocative actions. The papers also wrote that the three ministers agreed to hold a joint ballistic missile defense exercise in late June in waters off Hawaii. Yomiuri said this will be the first time for South Korea to participate in such an exercise. The three ministers also agreed to enhance information sharing related to North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs.
