Ambassador Kennedy visits JICA facility in Fukushima

unnamedThe Fukushima edition of Yomiuri reported on Wednesday that Ambassador Kennedy on Tuesday met with a group of some 160 Japanese volunteers who have been receiving training for future assignments abroad at a JICA facility in Nihonmatsu, Fukushima Prefecture. Noting that the Ambassador is keenly interested in JICA operations since the organization is a Japanese version of the U.S. Peace Corps launched by John F. Kennedy, the daily quoted her as telling the volunteers: “The problems the world faces can’t be resolved by a single nation. The future depends on you.” According to the article, the Ambassador later held a closed meeting with selected volunteers, in which she introduced a poem to help keep them motivated and offered advice on how to familiarize themselves with different cultures.
