Abe to attend ASEM, EAS summit to call for halting China’s maritime adventurism

Sunday’s Sankei front-paged a GOJ plan to step up lobbying efforts within the international community with the goal of deterring China’s pursuit of maritime interests. PM Abe is reportedly considering attending the ASEM summit in Mongolia in mid-July and the EAS summit in Laos in September in order to call for the participants to agree on the importance of resolving territorial disputes through dialogue based on international law. Since ASEAN members are expected to take part in the two major international conferences, Tokyo hopes to reaffirm mutual coordination to check China’s maritime advancement.
