Asahi and most other Saturday papers reported on an announcement on Friday by the government of Tottori Prefecture that debris likely from a North Korean missile washed ashore in the prefecture. A metallic object, measuring about 1.8 meters in length and 1.2 m in width, was found on June 16 by a prefectural government official. The object reportedly resembles an object recovered by South Korea after the February 7 launch of a long-range missile by North Korea. Defense Minister Nakatani told reporters that it cannot be ruled out that the debris came from a North Korean missile.
