Asahi reported on the disclosure by several GOJ sources that the Abe administration is mulling filing a lawsuit against the Okinawa prefectural government to seek a court judgment on the legality of Governor Onaga’s refusal to honor Land Minister Ishii’s instructions to rectify his cancellation of the landfill permit for FRF construction off Camp Schwab. The GOJ is inclined to initiate a legal action since Okinawa formally decided yesterday not to file a suit over the recent conclusion by a GOJ panel charged with resolving administrative disputes between the central and local governments not to take sides with Tokyo or Okinawa. The administration may sue Okinawa in late July at the earliest in order to resume landfill work at an early date.
