NHK reported this morning that visiting Vice Foreign Minister Sugiyama met with Deputy Secretary of State Blinken at the State Department on Monday . Sugiyama was quoted as telling reporters after the meeting that they discussed the British referendum on leaving the EU and shared the view that the UK is an important partner with which both nations have strong cooperative relations. He reportedly said they agreed to work closely to avoid any negative impact on the economy or security. The network said the two officials also agreed to strengthen trilateral cooperation among the U.S., Japan, and South Korea following North Korea’s Musudan missile launch.
