TV Asahi reported at noon that in response to a weekly magazine article claiming that Farm Minister Moriyama and four other people received a total of about 800,000 yen in cash from the chairman of the Japan Poultry Association at the time of the TPP negotiations, Moriyama admitted to receiving the money at a press conference this morning. The network said the association received subsidies from MAFF and that the Political Funds Control Law prohibits entities that have received government subsidies from making political donations. Moriyama reportedly said: “I received the money the day before I left for Atlanta to attend the TPP talks…The amount was 200,000 yen. I returned the money in February.”
