Okinawa Times front-paged that USFJ posted on Facebook on June 23 a statement saying it is a misunderstanding that 75% of the U.S. bases in Japan are concentrated in Okinawa and Okinawa actually hosts 39% of the U.S. military facilities. Okinawa Times wrote in an inside-page article that the USFJ’s statement can only be described as a taunt directed at the Okinawan people who are burdened by noise, accidents, and incidents associated with U.S. bases. Ryukyu Shimpo reported in an inside-page article that it asked USFJ for a comment but received no response.
