Ryukyu Shimpo front-paged a report saying that the Chatan Town Board of Education has been denied permission since last November to inspect cultural assets inside Camp Zukeran. The U.S.-Japan supplementary environmental agreement was reportedly cited as the reason for the refusal. The paper wrote in an editorial that the environmental agreement is “underhanded” and called on the government to immediately hold negotiations with the U.S., concluding that the environmental agreement is proof that there are many problems that cannot be resolved unless the SOFA is drastically revised.
