Tuesday’s Sankei projected in its lead story that the four political parties that support constitutional amendment are likely to win a two-thirds majority in the Upper House election on July 10. The daily made the prediction based on the results of its latest public opinion poll over the weekend and field surveys. LDP candidates are waging solid campaigns in 20 of the 32 single-seat districts in which they are clashing head-on with unified opposition candidates. The ruling LDP is likely to win more than 57 seats in total, enough to maintain a majority in the chamber without relying on its junior partner Komeito. On the other hand, the DP may lose as many as a dozen of its 43 seats.
