Most Tuesday papers reported that the U.S. civilian base employee at Kadena who was indicted on murder charges has submitted a request to the Supreme Court asking that the case be tried in Tokyo instead of the Okinawa District Court on the grounds that he may not be able to receive a “fair trial” since local people would serve as citizen judges. The plaintiff reportedly said that he doesn’t want to be tried by the people of Okinawa because they are hostile and prejudiced against him, adding, “I shouldn’t have to bear the local people’s anti-base sentiments by myself.”
