Nikkei reported online on press remarks this morning by Chief Cabinet Secretary Suga, who rebuffed media speculation that the Abe administration is looking into so-called helicopter money – an unconventional tool of monetary policy that involves printing large sums of money for distribution to the public. The top government spokesman said: “It is not true that the GOJ is studying [the idea].” He said the Bank of Japan will examine a desirable monetary policy while taking into account the direction of the financial market and various opinions.
