Japan to provide one billion yen to comfort women foundation

NHK reported this morning that the GOJ will provide a fund of about 1 billion yen as early as next month to a South Korean foundation aimed at supporting the comfort women based on the agreement reached between Japan and South Korea last December. The network said FM Kishida and his South Korean counterpart Yung confirmed that the Japanese side will provide one billion yen to the foundation during a bilateral meeting on Monday in Laos. Concerning the comfort women statue in front of the Japanese Embassy in Seoul, the network said the South Korean side has not taken any concrete measures and the GOJ is planning to continue to encourage South Korea to respond positively.
