Saturday morning’s Asahi wrote that arrangements are being made for Russian President Putin to make an official visit to Japan in December with the aim of releasing a joint statement. While noting that some GOJ officials have insisted that the Russian leader’s trip should be an informal one out of deference to the U.S., which is concerned about rapprochement between Tokyo and Moscow, the Kantei may decide to host Putin as an official guest in the hope of expediting bilateral negotiations on the Northern Territories.
