All papers wrote that the ruling LDP will have difficulty reconciling its differences with Tokyo Governor Koike, as she defeated the LDP candidate by a wide margin. Although the LDP Tokyo chapter is displeased that Koike ran in the race in violation of a party decision, it is concerned that maintaining its defiant line toward the new leader of the nation’s capital ahead of the 2020 Olympics may upset Tokyoites since she won big with almost 3 million votes. The dailies said PM Abe is flexible about reestablishing his rapport with Koike in view of her landslide victory and repeated remarks on the campaign trail in support of Abenomics.
