LDP policy chief Inada to be appointed defense minister

Asahi reported online that PM Abe has decided to tap LDP Police Research Council chief Inada as the defense minister in the cabinet reshuffle on Aug. 3, saying that she will become the second female defense minister after Yuriko Koike. The paper said the premier is hoping to play up his administration’s stance of promoting women’s advancement by appointing a female defense chief. The paper said the premier has also decided to retain Economic Revitalization Minister Ishihara in view of the planned deliberations on TPP-related bills in the extraordinary Diet session in the fall.
