All papers took up this year’s Defense White Paper that was published yesterday by MOD, saying that it used stronger language than last year in describing the nation’s concern about China’s maritime advances. The MOD document also expressed alarm over North Korea’s nuclear and missile development by calling it a “serious and pressing threat.” Beijing reportedly reacted sharply to the GOJ paper, with a Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson expressing “extreme displeasure and resolute opposition” and saying the Japanese document is “filled with hostility.”
