NTV reported at noon that some in South Korea and China are alarmed at the appointment of Inada as defense minister. South Korea’s Yonhap News reportedly wrote that Inada was refused entry into South Korea when she was planning to visit Ullung Island, adding that she could take a firm attitude over territorial and history issues and cause friction in defense cooperation. An official paper of the Chinese Communist Party reportedly introduced Inada as a close aide to PM Abe and a “right-wing female politician,” saying she does not acknowledge Japan’s war of aggression in the past.
