The heads of Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) and Japan Agricultural Cooperative Group (JA Group) met on Tuesday to confirm their future cooperation in strengthening the competitiveness of Japan’s agriculture. The roundtable discussion, which took place in Tokyo, was the first such meeting in about two years. The leaders of the two industries plan to meet periodically to exchange opinions. At the beginning of the meeting, Chairman of Japan’s Central Union of Agricultural Cooperatives (JA-Zenchu) Choe Okuno asked for support and advice from business world for preparing the agricultural industry for the enactment of the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement. He said, “Japan’s agriculture needs structural reform. We are not of the opinion that agriculture is different from other industries. We appreciate your sharing your knowledge and wisdom.”
