UNSC meeting convened following DPRK missile launch

NHK reported at noon that following North Korea’s latest missile launch, the UN Security Council held a closed-door emergency meeting in New York on Wednesday, saying that while the U.S., Japan, and South Korea stressed the need to take a tougher stance against the North, China maintained its position that the issue should be resolved through dialogue. The network added that China holds the key to future responses of the UNSC. The network said the envoys of the U.S., Japan, and South Korea held a press conference after the meeting and stressed the need for the international community to apply pressure on North Korea. When asked about nations that are opposed to issuing a statement condemning North Korea, the network quoted Chief Cabinet Secretary Suga as saying: “Japan is making all-out diplomatic efforts, but it is extremely regrettable that such nations actually exist.”
