Right after the third administration under Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was launched on August 3rd, the Okinawa business community voiced expectations for the new state minister in charge of Okinawa, Yosuke Tsuruho, in further vitalizing Okinawa’s economy. While Okinawans are encouraged by the prime minister’s economic stimulus measures, some are concerned that the dispute with the administration over the issue of construction of a new base in Henoko, Nago City, may affect the allocation of the stimulus package. Some, at the same time, expressed their desire for the new administration to earnestly tackle the issues Okinawans face. (Abridged)
