Mainichi wrote that during his meeting with Okinawa Mayor Kuwae on Aug. 8, Okinawa Governor Onaga expressed agreement with a plan to relocate storage facilities at the Makiminato Service Area to a U.S. base in the city of Okinawa. The relocation is part of the 2013 U.S.-Japan agreement to return U.S. military facilities south of Kadena. Onaga told the mayor that plans to return the U.S. military facilities should be implemented steadily in order to reduce the base-hosting burden on Okinawa.
