39% say Renho would be best as new DP leader, Nikkei spot poll

In the [Nikkei Inc./TV Tokyo] spot public opinion poll, respondents were asked who would be appropriate to succeed Katsuya Okada as president of the Democratic Party (DP) and then were offered seven choices. The most frequent response was DP Acting President Renho at 39%. Some 60% of DP supporters and slightly under 40% of independents selected Renho. Former Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara and DP Secretary-General Yukio Edano, who have both indicated a desire to run, were selected by 10% and 8% of respondents, respectively.
