Nikkei wrote today that Delta Airlines has decided to halt flight services connecting Narita Airport to New York, Bangkok, and Kansai International Airport in late October on the grounds that as a result of the U.S.-Japan aviation accord in February, rival U.S. carriers and their Japanese partners are enjoying “significant advantages.” The article explained that since Delta has used Narita as its hub for East Asia, it is bound to lose competitiveness in Japan because other U.S. operators were given slots at Haneda Airport, which is closer to central Tokyo. Delta is likely to move its hub from Narita to China.
