Hillary Clinton says she will oppose TPP as president

NHK reported this morning that Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton stated in an economic policy speech on Aug. 11 in Michigan: “I will stop any trade deal that kills jobs or holds down wages, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership. I oppose it now, I’ll oppose it after the election and I’ll oppose it as president.” The broadcaster speculated that Clinton underscored her opposition to the TPP in response to Republican nominee Donald Trump’s claim that she would support the TPP if she became president. The network also conjectured that her remarks were intended to win the votes of the white working class. NHK said that it is becoming increasingly uncertain whether Congress will approve the TPP agreement while President Obama is in office because both the Democratic and Republican presidential candidates are opposed to the trade agreement.
