All Saturday papers reported that Defense Minister Inada has decided to visit Djibouti from Saturday through Tuesday and meet with SDF personnel engaged in anti-piracy operations off the coast of Somalia. As a result, she will not make her annual visit to Yasukuni Shrine on Aug. 15. The dailies speculated that the schedule for the overseas trip was carefully planned to head off potential criticism by China and South Korea of an Inada visit to the Shinto memorial. The papers added that many GOJ officials have welcomed her decision.
