Okinawa Times and Ryukyu Shimpo wrote in front-page articles on Aug. 15 that Veterans For Peace, a U.S.-based global organization of military veterans and allies, unanimously adopted at its annual meeting on Aug. 13 separate resolutions calling for the suspension of the ongoing construction of a new base at Henoko and landing zones at the Northern Training Area in Takae. The resolution called on the USG to cancel the construction at Takae and criticized the GOJ’s construction work by mobilizing riot police as an antidemocratic and discriminatory act.
