The online editions of Nikkei and Mainichi highlighted a story published by the Washington Post on Monday that claimed Prime Minister Abe personally conveyed to PACOM Commander Harris recently Japan’s concern that if President Obama declares a “no first use” of nuclear weapons policy, deterrence against countries such as North Korea will suffer and the risk of conflict will rise. Mainichi added that the premier met with the top U.S. military official in the Pacific at the Kantei on July 26.
