According to TV-Asahi, in criticizing Donald Trump’s qualifications to be the next U.S. leader, Vice President Biden said the following on Monday in a speech at a campaign rally for Hillary Clinton: “Does he not understand? We wrote Japan’s constitution, to say they could not be a nuclear power. Where was he when in school?” The Vice President emphasized that the Republican presidential nominee cannot be trusted. NHK, Yomiuri, and Mainichi also took up his remarks, with the two latter outlets saying that it was extremely unusual for a top USG official to state publicly that America wrote Japan’s supreme law.
