Komeito leader Natsuo Yamaguchi expressed that Article 9 of the Constitution should be upheld, pointing out that “Article 9 provides for peace and security legislation as well as the legal basis for a seamless defense system.” He also said: “During discussions, we reaffirmed the concept of Article 9. I have no intention to argue for its rejection.”
With regard to the security-related bills, Yamaguchi emphasized that “the security situation surrounding Japan has become increasingly severe. With this legislation, Japan as a nation must make an effort to contribute to Japan’s security as well as to the peace of the international community.”
