Health ministry to check American celery for pesticide residue

Nikkei wrote that the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare issued on Aug. 16 an order to inspect celery imported from the U.S. upon its arrival in Japan based on the Food Sanitation Law following the earlier detection of residual pesticides exceeding the designated level. The celery in which pesticide residue was detected is currently being stored by the importer and has not been put on the market.
