Yomiuri wrote that eight Asia experts who have served in past Republican administrations said in an open letter on Aug. 15 that they will back Hillary Clinton in the presidential election because Asian nations “may tilt toward China and move to seek security under a new proliferation of nuclear weapons” if Donald Trump becomes president. Signatories of the letter include Center for a New American Security Senior Advisor Patrick Cronin and Center for Strategic and International Studies Senior Vice President for Asia Michael Green.

In a related development, TV-Asahi reported at noon that 123 Republicans, including incumbent lawmakers and former senior USG officials, have signed an open letter saying that Trump’s remarks have alienated millions of voters and that his chances of being elected president are “evaporating by the day.” The letter urged the Republican Party to immediately suspend its support for Trump.
