ROK to move to build trilateral missile defense system with U.S., Japan

Asahi wrote from Seoul that the Park administration plans to procure three Aegis destroyers capable of mounting SM-3 interceptors in view of the growing ballistic missile threat posed by North Korea. Although an official decision has not yet been made to load the interceptors on the warships, Seoul will probably introduce them to make sure that DPRK missiles will be shot down without fail. Noting that South Korea needs missile data collected by U.S. satellites and radars operated by the U.S. military and the SDF in order to ensure successful interception, the daily said the three partners are apparently moving to build a trilateral missile defense system.
