With regard to the convocation of an extraordinary Diet session in the fall, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said during an NHK TV program that aired on Aug. 21, “I want to convene the session as early as possible,” expressing his aim to convene the session in mid-September. Bearing in mind the Democratic Party’s presidential election with voting and vote counting scheduled for Sept. 15, Suga added, “I’ve been told that it’s difficult to determine whom to contact within the DP to negotiate a specific date for the convocation.” Suga went on to say, “There are a number of risks such as the UK’s departure from the EU, so we should start deliberations on economic measures and the FY2016 second supplementary budget as soon as possible.”
