The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has decided to appoint Policy Research Council Chairman Toshimitsu Motegi as the head of its special committee on labor reform. The committee will hold its first meeting in late September, aiming at compiling its recommendations as soon as early next year.
This is in response to the government’s plan to form a “council for the realization of labor reform” chaired by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and consisting of the relevant ministers, labor and management representatives, and experts, which will draw up an action plan within FY16. The LDP’s special committee will discuss remedies for long working hours, promoting the employment of seniors, and other issues in parallel with the government council’s deliberations. (Abridged)
