U.S.-Japan summit called off

Mainichi wrote that a GOJ source has disclosed that the U.S. and Japanese governments decided to forgo talks between President Obama and Prime Minister Abe in Laos on Sept. 8 due to time constraints. The two nations had agreed to hold a leaders’ meeting following the East Asia Summit, but the conference ended about two hours later than originally scheduled. Nikkei added that the two governments will try to arrange a meeting between their leaders on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York later this month or the APEC leaders’ meeting to be held in Peru in November.
