RCEP leaders give up on concluding pact in 2016

VIENTIANE (Kyodo) On Sept. 8, the leaders of the 16 countries participating in negotiations on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement issued a joint statement in Laos aiming at a “swift conclusion of the negotiations.” The 16 countries include Japan, China, South Korea, India, and ASEAN states. They have given up on reaching their target of concluding a pact by the end of 2016 and did not announce a new deadline.
