Sunday papers wrote that the Supreme Court has decided to dismiss an appeal filed by residents near NAF Atsugi claiming that the Tokyo High Court was wrong when it ruled that the Japanese government has no authority to regulate U.S. military flights at the installation. Noting that the original ruling was issued in a trial about noise pollution at the U.S. base, the papers explained that the Supreme Court thus effectively upheld the lower court’s decision that the GOJ cannot suspend U.S. military flights.
