New York (Kyodo) – Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida held a foreign ministerial meeting with his counterparts from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on Sept. 21 (Sept. 22, Japan time) in New York. Japan and CARICOM agreed to push forward with cooperation in the areas of disaster management and the environment.
Kishida said Japan will steadily implement measures in support of cooperation in those areas. He also proposed stepping up sports exchanges with an eye on the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.
CARICOM is an organization of 14 Caribbean nations including Jamaica. Foreign ministers from 13 countries attended the meeting.
