Takahashi appointed as deputy chief cabinet secretary for crisis management

In a cabinet meeting held on Sept. 23, it was decided that Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary for Crisis Management Yasuhiko Nishimura will retire and former Superintendent General of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Kiyotaka Takahashi will succeed him, effective the same day. Nishimura will assume the position of deputy director of the Imperial Household Agency effective Sept. 26.


After having served as chief of the Okinawa prefectural police headquarters and security bureau director general of the National Police Agency, Takahashi served as MPD superintendent general from August last year to this month. Takahashi (59), originally from Chiba Prefecture, graduated from the faculty of law, the University of Tokyo, in 1980.
