Japan to extend $400 million annually for Afghan reconstruction

All papers reported on the opening of the Afghan donors’ conference in Brussels on Wednesday to discuss aid policy for the war-torn country from 2017 through 2020. Japan pledged to provide $400 million in aid annually. But State Minister for Foreign Affairs Sonoura said the effectiveness of the aid will be limited unless the security situation is improved, calling on the Afghan government to address corruption and other outstanding issues. The daily said international financial assistance for Kabul in the next four years will be about 60% of the level of five years ago.
