Aiming to fortify cybercrime countermeasures in advance of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department (TMPD) held its first joint meeting with representatives of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and private corporations on Oct. 5. The parties confirmed they would share information and strengthen their coordination going beyond the boundaries of their individual fields.
About 100 executives of private-sector telecommunications operators as well as infrastructure operators, including those in electricity, gas, and waterworks, participated in the meeting. “There is a chance that Tokyo will be the target of cyberattacks during the 2020 Olympics,” said TMPD Deputy Superintendent General Fumio Yamashita. “Through cooperation among the public and private sectors, we will do everything in our power to ensure safety in cyberspace .”
