On Nov. 14, the Japan Patent Office will launch a new patent classification code (ZIT) for technology related to the Internet of Things (IoT) to enable applicants to collect and analyze patent information on the technology across the board. The new code is expected to help reduce time and money for applicants to examine whether technology has been already patented and to promote research and development within Japan. (Abridged)
