DP secretary general says Abe jumped the gun in meeting with Trump

At a meeting of the Democratic Party (DP) in Asaka City, Saitama Prefecture, on Nov. 19, Secretary General Yoshihiko Noda questioned Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s being the first national leader to meet with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump. He said: “The world is closely watching to see if Mr. Trump will be able to embrace the common basic values of human dignity, freedom, democracy, and rule of law. The Prime Minister and the Foreign Ministry jumped the gun.”

Noda also stated: “Mr. Obama is the incumbent president of the United States. Meeting with Mr. Trump while Mr. Obama is still in office is a breach of international protocol.” He added: “(The Prime Minister) said that he is ‘confident’ that (Trump) is a ‘trustworthy leader’ after only a brief meeting. Is he serious? I can’t believe it.”
